Waste from major events, including Vivid Sydney, is being diverted from landfill thanks to a partnership between ResourceCo and event cleaning waste management and specialists Clean Vibes.
Sustainability at events, corporate facilities, and venues has had an increased focus with organisers and hosts looking to minimising environmental impact while ensuring efficient and responsible handling of any minimal waste that is generated.
After Clean Vibes sorts and pre-shreds waste material from events, it is delivered to ResourceCo’s resource recovery facilities, where additional recyclables are separated, with the remaining material then used to produce an alternate fuel that replaces coal as an energy source for high energy users.
ResourceCo General Manager – Strategy, Angelo Stratis, said it is exciting to be working with Clean Vibes and providing sustainable outcomes for the waste they collect from events.
“Our partnership has continued to grow with Clean Vibes over the past 18 months, working with them to divert significant amounts of waste from events from ending up in landfill and instead provide sustainable solutions,” he said.
“Events of the size of those serviced by Clean Vibes produce significant amounts of waste, so it’s great that we can work with them to lessen the amount being sent to landfill, while also reducing the use of fossil fuels.
“We look forward to continuing this great partnership well into the future as both of our organisations continue to grow across the country.”
Clean Vibes Marketing and Communications Manager Vanesa Li said working with ResourceCo has “changed the game”.
“When events are run, there are lots of promotional assets that gets produced. Items like uniforms, lanyards, banners, fence scrim – once the event is over, these assets can’t be reused so it’s amazing that we’re now able to sustainably turn them over to ResourceCo to transform into process engineered fuel,” she said.
“The process working with ResourceCo has been great. They’re quick to grab a sample of materials which they then get taken to the lab.
“Once the lab tests, they’re able to let us know if the materials can be shredded and sent to them for further recycling. It has dramatically increased what we are able to recycle so we’re looking forward to continuing this partnership in future.”
