ResourceCo’s recently opened resource recovery facility in Hemmant, QLD, is now recycling waste from Jumbo, a leading waste management and resource recovery provider in south east Queensland.

The construction and demolition waste services provider is one of the first to commence working with us as we seek to divert resources from landfill in our new resource recovery facility.

Under this new agreement material collected by Jumbo will be transported to ResourceCo’s Hemmant facility where, recyclables are separated, with the remaining then used to produce an alternate fuel that replaces coal as an energy source for high energy using cement manufacturers.

ResourceCo Business Development Manager Matthew Dyer said it was exciting to welcome Jumbo’s waste to the new facility.

“Every tonne from Jumbo that we divert from landfill saves one tonne of carbon that would be released through methane at a landfill,” he said.

“This is in addition to another tonne of carbon emissions saved by cement manufactures who use our fuel to replace coal.

“We look forward to continuing a strong relationship with Jumbo and other local organisations in providing sustainable outcomes for their waste.”

Jumbo’s Managing Director, Rory Crundall, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership.

“This collaboration marks a very important step for Jumbo in meeting our targets of reducing waste to landfill. We will be diverting another 15,000+ tonnes from landfill per year, helping to turn it into a sustainable resource, and helping reduce the dependency on fossil fuels.” he said.

The facility, which is the first of its kind in Queensland, is slated to achieve 95% landfill diversion by recycling waste from Brisbane and south east Queensland businesses and councils.
