MCC Australia has teamed up with ResourceCo to introduce a new way of managing its dry waste, diverting it from landfill in the process.
As the global leader of premium labels, MCC helps brands stand out in competitive markets and inspire positive consumer experiences.
All the dry, non-recyclable waste produced at MCC facilities in South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland is now being sent to ResourceCo’s Resource Recovery Facilities in those respective states.
At these facilities the waste goes through advanced processing systems that remove as many recoverable materials as possible.
The remaining material is transformed into Process Engineered Fuel (PEF) – which is used by high-energy users like cement kilns to displace the use of fossil fuels.
Every tonne of waste diverted from landfill results in approximately one less tonne of CO2 from landfill emissions and every tonne of PEF used by cement kilns results in approximately one less tonne of CO2 emissions from cement kilns that traditionally rely on fossil fuels to run their furnaces.
MCC’s Sustainability Manager APAC, Devaki Rajendran, explained the motivation behind the partnership.
“Our dedication to sustainability drives every decision we make,” she said.
“MCC is excited to announce its partnership with ResourceCo, where we are actively implementing initiatives to significantly reduce landfill waste and lower carbon emissions.
“We are adopting comprehensive waste management strategies including enhanced recycling programs, waste reduction at the source, and partnerships for sustainable waste processing. By diverting waste from landfills, we reduce methane emissions and our overall environmental footprint.
“MCC expects to reduce 33% of absolute GHG by 2028, representing a significant achievement. This effort forms part of our ‘Labeled with Care’ strategy, reinforcing our commitment to being a reliable and trusted label printer for our customers and contribute meaningfully to global climate action targets.”
ResourceCo General Manager – Strategy, Angelo Stratis, said it was exciting to be able to support another business in pushing to achieve its sustainability goals.
“By partnering with ResourceCo, MCC is achieving 95%+ diversion from landfill, reducing CO2 emissions from material that historically went to landfill and decreasing the reliance on fossil fuels by the cement kilns using PEF as a substitute,” he said.
“ResourceCo is proud of our partnership with MCC, and we look forward to strengthening this relationship with MCC and their partners moving forward.
“We encourage other local businesses and councils to reach out to discuss how we can assist with diverting their waste from landfill.”
