At ResourceCo, we see opportunity where others see waste. It is an ethos that has driven us to become one of Australia’s leading resource recovery and re-manufacturing companies.

Operating over 25 specialised recycling facilities across Australasia, there is not much we can’t re-manufacture and save from being sent to landfill. In Victoria, this includes the production of premium recycled timber mulch products at our Brooklyn site in Melbourne’s inner-west.

Second-life mulch might seem simple, but to consistently produce the highest-quality products in large volumes in a dependable manner requires a meticulous process.

With product quality implications being shown to be highly impactful for manufacturers, consumers and potentially the community, this article explores how our best practice production initiatives help to mitigate against hazards, while ensuring a versatile and cost-competitive sustainable mulch offering for our end users.

Our Commitment to Quality Mulch

Instances where asbestos has been detected in mulch products across Victoria and New South Wales underscores the critical need for stringent processes around material acceptance and quality testing. It is something ResourceCo does not shy away from, in fact we double-down by having rigorous in-bound material inspections, along with comprehensive material testing procedures.

As an industry leader, we are proactively engaging and collaborating with regulators, industry groups and or valued customers, to establish new benchmarks for best practices in recycled timber mulch.

Recycled Mulch Testing & Production Process

To minimise contamination risks from the outset, the sustainable mulch production process at facilities like our Brooklyn recycling plant begins by evaluating various end-of-life materials across a strict suitability criterion.

Accepted timbers such has oriented strand board, plywood and hardwoods, freight pallets including chipboard corner blocks, radiata pine packing timbers and most wooden off-cuts (no treated pine) are passed through a slow speed grinder, air separator and a magnet to create a coarse product during the receival phase.

Following a visual inspection, coarse materials are then fed into a secondary process, which includes passing under two high-powered magnets to remove ferrous material, our testing capabilities also extend to onsite analysis of material by our trained staff using a state-of-the-art Thermo Scientific microPHAZIR AS Asbestos Analyzer.

By utilising strict acceptance protocols, alongside advanced systems and technologies we give our customers the confidence that the recycled timber mulch we produce is both safe for redeployment and of the highest quality.

Fit-For-Purpose Recycled Timber Mulch

We pride ourselves on our dependable recycled timber mulch products, catering to large-volume requirements all year round.

Our mulch is produced with high-grade materials that distinguishes it from less-predictable green waste mulch, ultimately creating a product that is renowned for its consistency and reliability.

Produced to rigorous standards, our eco-friendly mulch is available in three versatile sizes – 20mm, 30mm and 40mm – making our products suitable for a wide range of applications, supporting everything from large-scale parklands and commercial projects, to farming and residential gardens.

Our Brooklyn site is conveniently located in Melbourne’s inner-west where we produce and distribute our recycled timber mulch.
